About the series Look at me
A series of imaginary characters from the combination of infinitesimal details of previously produced photographs. Childhood, a leitmotif in her body of work, is here paradoxically represented in its “natural” perfection through the artificial patchwork of body parts, costumes from different cultures and ages. In these digital collages gestures become enigmatic: the child's innocence is dramatically placed in contradiction with adult expressions and emotions.
Look at me is a series of digital collages, showing children in bright colors with an ‘open mind’. Their wide-eyed gazes and slightly chubby cheeks accentuate a childish innocence. These children symbolize innocence, playfulness and vulnerability. They look at the world with natural curiosity.
These children, gifted with the purity of silence, attempt to make contact only through their presence. It is their war against words, in a world where we constantly talk and share everything, but nothing is really said. They are the silent protesters. They are holding still, just being present. They are asking to be seen, to make contact, without any judgement or shame.
It is important for me that my work radiates something positive. It makes you smile and second hopefully lets you think about making real contact and connectedness.
